Review: Garnier Skin Renew BB Cream

Garnier Skin Renew BB Cream in Light/Medium
Retail: Around $11.99

I picked this up about a month ago. I had been hearing about this from Australian bloggers that I followed and was wicked excited to try this product.

Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype.

This product is supposed to "Renew, brighten, even, hydrate, protect." Lets take a look at the claims.

Renew: I didn't really notice much of a difference after using this product for a month. Yes, I'm only 25 so my skin issues are basically acne and acne scars. But a lot of reviews I read on the Garnier website claimed this product helped erase their acne scarring. I saw no such thing happen in my skin.

Brighten: This product does have a brightening effect...with the use of shimmer. Not great for my oily skin.

Even: This did help even my skin tone. But, this product is extremely think. Thicker than a tinted moisturizer and other BB creams I've used in the past. Its more foundation like, which I didn't like since I felt like I was wearing a mask.

Hydrate: This product does not hydrate AT ALL. I have very oily skin and this product felt dry and mask like after I applied, rubbed in with my fingers, and let it set for a few minutes. It also makes my face feel extremely tight and it would crease and crack around my nose area and little balls of product would fall off my face. I tried putting a powder over this since the shimmer makes my skin look extremely shiny and in some places, the powder just fell right off my face everytime I moved. The only way I can wear this is with a moisturizer underneath, which defeats the purpose since this is supposed to take the place of a moisturizer.

Protect: This product is only an SPF 15. It might be ok for winter, but I would rather an SPF of 30. I don't think I've seen many BB creams with an SPF of less than 25. I don't know why they couldn't have added more SPF.

Some swatches:
Not blended

Semi blended

Completely blended

As you can see, even when completely blended, it still is a little dark for me. I wish there was a Fair/Light option but there is only Light/Medium and Medium/Deep.

This product just doesn't do what it claims. I do not recommend this. I would rather pay more for a BB cream that works.

Have you tried this? What did you think?

Do you have a product you would like me to review? Leave me a comment!

  1. I almost bought this but saw the 'light/medium' label and since I'm paler than porcelain I knew it'd be a bad investment. Glad to know I didn't pay that price for something that sounds like it doesn't even work!
    Thanks for the review!

  2. Yeah, I'm pretty pale as well but I thought I'd give it a go. Hindsight...

I think I'm going to try an actual BB Cream sometime in the near future. Need to find something to use for spring/summer!

  3. I have tried it but it makes my skin break out... I'm very pale too so what I do is to put a thin layer of the cream and then I use foundation powder (lighter than my skin color), and all the things that it should do... well, I didn't notice them xD

  6. I found it was wayyy too heavy and oily for my already oily skin. Used it once only.

  7. This made me sad bc I've been dying to get my hands on this BB cream to help with my acne scars. I've seen a few reviews that say the same thing as you too. Huge bummer! Hopefully, better ones come out in the future!

  8. I know, I was expecting a lot of this BB cream! If you need a product to help with acne scars, I suggest Garnier's Radiance Moisture Cream. I've been using it for a few months and have noticed some fading of mine :)

  9. No problem! I think it's just as important to share products I don't like as it is to share products I like. I always try to be honest in my reviews.
